The Blacksmith’s Striker

Knowledge Base > The Blacksmith's Striker

A blacksmith’s striker in simple words is termed as a little blacksmith. He is the one whose job is to help the professional blacksmith in all the working matters and he works like a supporting factor whose task is to swing a large sledgehammer in heavy forging operations of the blacksmith. The blacksmith may hold the hot iron in one hand and signifies the location where it is to be struck by tapping it having a little sludge hammer in the other hand. The striker then delivers great hit using the sledgehammer wherever indicated. However, this role has been now automated with the use of trip hammers or reciprocating power hammers.
